Canvas is the University’s Learning Management System. It is used by instructors to publish course materials, create assignments and quizzes, foster interaction, etc.

After the installation, click the LockDown Browser icon on your Desktop. It will also be installed on your Start Menu All Programs under the Respondus folder. Mac users can check the Desktop or the Finder under Applications. There will be a dropdown menu in LockDown Browser. Choose the Canvas @ Bucks option and click OK. How do I log into Canvas?

INSTALLING LOCKDOWN BROWSER. In order to use LockDown Browser for an assessment, you must download the application locally to your computer. If a Canvas created quiz or test has LockDown Browser enabled, you will not be able to complete that assessment within Canvas.

You may log into Canvas with your University NetID and Password.
How do I access my courses?
Courses you register for on NEST are automatically populated to your Canvas dashboard. Courses are automatically added to your Canvas dashboard every 4 to 6 hours.

While Information Technology makes all courses available three business days prior to the start of the semester, please note instructors reserve the right to publish and unpublish courses on their own.

Are Canvas Guides available?
Yes. Both the Canvas Instructor Guide and Canvas Student Guide are available at https://community.canvaslms.com/t5/Guides/ct-p/guides.
Is Canvas Support available on campus?
Yes! The Information Technology Service Desk is available to assist with Canvas. Call 973-655-7971, option 3 to be forwarded directly to a Canvas representative. Help is also available via email at itservicedesk@montclair.edu.
What version of Canvas are we on?
Canvas does not use version numbers. All Canvas customers are always on the current version of Canvas. Canvas receives vetted updates every three weeks. For in-depth release notes, visit the Canvas Release Notes page for more information.

Lockdown Browser Download Canvas

According to Instructure, “ensuring an accessible and pleasant experience to all users, regardless of disability, is a key focus of Canvas. The Canvas platform was built using the most modern HTML and CSS technologies, and is committed to W3C’s Web Accessibility Initiative and Section 508 guidelines.”

Follet Discover allows faculty to peruse course materials, including textbook information, directly from Canvas. The Follet Discover integration for Canvas streamlines text adoption workflow by allowing faculty to find and select to submit to the bookstore for adoption. Follet Discover is accessible from Canvas’s global navigation and under each user’s personal settings page.

Respondus Lockdown Browser creates a restricted test-taking environment. The Respondus LockDown Browser does not allow other windows to be opened during the quiz and helps prevent cheating. When students use Respondus LockDown Browser they are unable to print, copy, go to another URL, or access other applications. This is particularly helpful for tests/exams in supervised classrooms or lab environments.

Additionally, LockDown Browser integrates with the Canvas Learning Management System. Faculty can create quizzes that can only be accessed using LockDown Browser.

  • LockDown Browser is installed on the following lab computers:
    • University Hall 5007 desktops
    • University Hall 5008 laptops
    • Sprague Library loaner laptops
  • Download and install LockDown browser on your personal computer
    • LockDown Browser can also be downloaded directly from the unique Respondus LockDown Browser URL for Montclair State University
    • Students who attempt to take a Canvas quiz which requires LockDown Browser from any other browser will be directed to download LockDown Browser

Respondus Lockdown Browser Canvas Download

Turnitin is Montclair State University’s plagiarism detection system. It is integrated directly with Canvas and often used by instructors in conjunction with essay assignments.

Montclair State University has moved to a site license for Zoom across campus. The new “Licensed” (formerly Pro) version gives all Faculty, Staff, and Students access to Zoom. This license no longer has a time limit for its usage. Zoom is one of the industry leaders on meeting solutions along with Microsoft and Cisco. Zoom offers a robust and growing set of collaboration features to satisfy relevant use cases, with integrated room systems.

What is Canvas?

Lockdown Browser Download For Windows

Canvas is the online tool that CPTC uses to support your online, hybrid and web-enhanced courses.Use Canvas to view course content, such as course syllabus and handouts, submit assignments, view grades, or participate in online discussions, and take online exams and quizzes.

Students in an online, hybrid or web-enhanced class should have the basic ability to:

  • access and navigate websites
  • download and upload files
  • send attachments
  • save and upload files in word processing formats (.doc, or .docx) or other course appropriate formats
  • copy and paste text from files on a computer to text boxes within a web browser

Respondus Lockdown Browser Free Students

Students in an online, hybrid, or enhanced class should have reliable access to:

  • Computer
  • Printer
  • Internet

How to Log In

To log into Canvas, go to the CPTC Canvas login page, at https://cptc.instructure.com/.

Canvas will always use your Student ID number as your username. The default password is the first 8 letters of your last name, all in small letters. If your last name contains fewer than 8 letters, repeat those letters until you have 8. For example, if your last name is Reed the password would be reedreed.

Using Lockdown Browser

Some instructors will require the use of a special web browser for taking tests at home. If your instructor requires Lockdown Browser, click on Respondus Lockdown Browser to download and install it on your computer. Lockdown Browser is also installed on computers in the Learning Resource Center, for your use.
